SHOPPING AMONGST THE STALLS
Markets for all tastes are some of the traditional and most popular local tourist events. In Cavallino, in the special market area in via Fausta, every Tuesday morning sees a weekly market whose size and wide range also attracts tourists from surrounding areas. You’ll find everything for sale on the stalls: clothing, items for yourself and your home, food and wine and, of course, excellent local agricultural produce like aubergines, tomatoes, courgettes and peppers. It is, without doubt, one of the best loved and most popular events amongst tourists and residents. As a result of its success and popularity, the weekly market has doubled its dates over the past few Summers and, until September, also has an evening version in piazza Santa Maria Elisabetta every Friday, in an even more atmospheric setting. In Treporti, the historic Ss. Trinità square also sees a weekly market every Thursday morning, offering a wide range of products, including local produce.
Ss. Trinità square has for several years also hosted an antiques market, with a calendar decided every season. It offers an elegant display entirely dedicated to antiques and collectors’ items that attracts tourists from all over the coastline.
A “Farmer's Market” also takes place in Winter, due to its popularity. Every Wednesday morning, in piazza Papa Giovanni Paolo II in Ca' Savio (the town hall square) residents and guests of this tourist resort can find excellent quality fruit, vegetables, cold cuts, cheese, meat, ice cream and fish, directly cultivated or produced in Cavallino-Treporti and in the province of Venice.
